Camp Comstock Custodian & Maintenance - Ithaca, NY
We are seeking a detailed oriented Camp Custodian & Maintenance Manager at Camp Comstock in Ithaca, NY which is located along the shores of Cayuga Lake. Campers enjoy the unique natural surroundings created by the Finger Lakes while living in beautiful tree-top cabin village units. Comstock features nearly two miles of lakefront, offering a wide variety of water sports and a beautiful location to enjoy the sunrise or sunset.
Job Summary:
The Custodian and Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily upkeep and cleaning of all camp buildings and ensuring all supplies are well stocked and maintained. The Custodian and Maintenance Manager will regularly employ risk management skills, continuously ensuring camper and employee safety, alerting the Camp Director and Camp Ranger of facility risks. The Custodian and Maintenance Manager works closely with the kitchen/sanitation aid to ensure proper daily sanitation of all bathrooms.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Attend mandatory staff training.
• Attend staff meetings.
• Daily sanitation of all sinks, showers and toilets at camp, additional cleaning as needed.
• Daily inspection and upkeep of all camp latrines
• Monitor inventory and replenish supplies as needed.
• Daily inspection of all unit cabins.
• Supervise and assist with sweeping the main lodge after each meal. Mopping as needed, with a minimum of once weekly.
• Daily trash removal.
• Complete and record daily water samples.
• Keep the Camp Director regularly informed of facility needs.
• Weekly observance of fire-pits, ensuring ample wood for cook-outs.
• Assist with luggage during check-in and check-out.
• Act as a leader and role model to other staff members through enthusiastic participation in all camp programming.
• Cover unit staff evenings off, rest hours off, and any and all other time-off as assigned.
• Assist in the kitchen as assigned.
• Utilize excellent customer service skills, maintain a professional demeanor and positive, upbeat disposition, maintain the tenets of the Girl ScoutLaw, maintain a willingness to help others, and communicate with other staff members in a way that is positive and encouraging.
• Adhere to all COVID-19 protocols required by NYS Department of Health and GSNYPENN. Must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Custodian and Maintenance Manager does not supervise employees.
Minimum Qualification Standards:
• Be at least 17 years of age.
• Ability to properly clean and sanitize all parts of a bathroom.
• Current license, ability to operate an all-terrain vehicle
• Ability to work as a member of a team.
• Believe in the Girl Scout mission.
• Experience working with children in an outdoor setting preferred, but not necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple
projects and details simultaneously.
• Possess good character, integrity, patience, sense of humor, enthusiasm, a
high level of flexibility, and willingness to be a part of the camp community.
• Ability to work productively in a fast paced, stressful environment.
Physical Requirements:
• Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
• Walking on uneven terrain, up and down hills for distances up to ½ mile
• Endurance to meet emergency needs
• Ability (and willingness) to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours
Environmental Conditions:
The employee is subject to inside and/or outside environmental conditions, noise,
outdoor elements such as rain, wind, sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, etc.
