Senior Controls Engineer

Summary of Responsibilities

We start by having the right people in-house.  To that we add strategic partners who are industry leaders in automation technology.  By bringing everything together, we’re able to consistently integrate ingenious customized solutions that solve the toughest materials handling challenges.  The Senior Controls Engineer contributes to this by completing the mechanical build of projects, including installation and coordination with the project team.

Essential Duties

The Senior Controls Engineer plays a vital role in the ongoing success of Han-Tek.  Additional duties may be assigned to meet business needs.  The essential duties and responsibilities of the position include:

§  Leads controls engineering design efforts through concepting, design, programming, testing and commissioning efforts per project requirements

§  Develops design documentation aligned and traceable with project contractual requirements

§  Effectively delegates work to controls and mechanical engineers

§  Interface with customer engineering and end-user contacts during project design and implementation cycle

§  Develops PLC, Robot, and HMI programs and applications

§  Develops FAT and Field Installation documentation

§  Travels to site to support field efforts (30-40% travel required)

§  Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and occasionally lift 25 lbs.

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements

Based on the responsibilities of this position, the Senior Controls Engineer is required to have the following qualifications:

§  10+ years in design of automated material handling systems and robotic handling systems

§  BS in Electrical, Controls Engineering or Electrical, Controls Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience

§  Comprehensive knowledge of electrical engineering design standards, including NEC, NFPA, and UL standards

§  Gantry, Overhead, and Stacker Crane programming and commissioning experience

§  Pallet, case, and custom conveyor programming experience

§  AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical design software

§  Rockwell Software RSLogix 500, 5000, FactoryTalk View ME/SE programming software 

§  SIMATIC Step 7 / TIA Portal / WinCC programming software

§  PowerFlex 520/750 Series VF Drives, Kinetix Servo Drives

§  Siemens G120/S120 drive platforms  

§  Cognex Data-Man Identification & InSight Vision systems

§  Fanuc Robot Controller programming and commissioning

§  ABB, KUKA, and Yaskawa Robot Programming & Commissioning

§  Inductive Automation and Wonderware HMI/SCADA software development platforms

§  Beckhoff PLC Programming experience a plus

§  Supervisory PLC control systems

§  Keyence Barcode Scanner and Vision Systems

§  Data Collection & Management Systems for KPI and IIoT / Industry 4.0 data collection

Physical and Environmental

The Senior Controls Engineer is located primarily in an office environment but may experience other conditions while on-site at a customer’s location on a regular basis.  Physical requirements include:

§  Moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds)

§  Use of potentially hazardous machinery

§  Use of power tools

§  Exposure to fumes from painting supplies and other chemicals used throughout production and installation

§  Exposure to loud noise

§  Proper safety equipment must be worn including:

o   Safety glasses

o   Steel-toed boots

o   Customer locations may require additional safety equipment to be used

§  Awareness of potential hazards, such as nearby machinery, while in the shop or at a customer location
