Position: Kitchen Aide

Program: Head Start/Early Head Start

Reports to: Nutrition Manager

Status: Part-time, Non-Exempt, for 25-30 hours per week, typical hours between 9am-2pm, Monday-Friday, 44 weeks per year with summers off, with benefits

 

Job Function: Receive food and food supplies, set tables, and serve meals family style at the designated site followed by cleaning of the dining area, as well as the kitchen area fulfilling all sanitation requirements.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Meet delivery personnel to receive food and food supplies and sign daily delivery notices to acknowledge food and food supplies received.

 

Record changes on center menu.

 

Record temperatures of all hot dishes upon arrival of food. Must record food temperature prior to serving.

 

Test bleach with test strips and record sanitize levels on appropriate paper. If concerns with the levels contact Nutrition Manager.

 

Maintain appropriate cleanliness of kitchen at all times which includes:

·         Must wear clean, neat attire daily and food service gloves

·         Keep the kitchen storage area clean and sanitized. Floors will be swept and mopped daily. Counters kept free of unnecessary items and sanitized both before and after meal preparation.

·         Stove, refrigerator, and freezers will be kept clean inside and out. Proper functioning of appliances is to be monitored by all kitchen staff daily.

·         Maintain proper storage of food and supplies to avoid spoilage and ensuring efficient rotation of food stock.

·         Ensure disposal of garbage and recyclables daily

 

Assist in the preparation of daily snack as needed.

 

Wash dishes, silverware, serving dishes, glasses, pans, and carriers, etc.

 

Maintain inventory of food and supplies on a regular basis.

 

Contact Nutrition Manager for any general work concerns.

 

Work closely with the teaching staff, parent volunteers, and children.

 

Must attend required training and all requested staff or community meetings.

 

Education and/or Experience                                                   

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Acceptable NYS Driver's License.

 

Other Qualifications                                                     

Clearance through the NYS Maltreatment Registry. Annual Physical Examination, TB Test and Fingerprinting for criminal background

 

Physical Demands & Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to handle, or feel and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and depth perception.

 

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
