Camp Comstock Performing Arts Instructor - Ithaca, NY

We are seeking a creative and talented Performing Arts Instructor to work with girls at Camp Comstock.  The person in this role will help us build girls of character, confidence and courage who make the world a better place.  Camp Comstock in Ithaca, NY, is located along the shores of Cayuga Lake. Campers enjoy the unique natural surroundings created by the Finger Lakes while living in beautiful tree-top cabin village units. Comstock features nearly two miles of lakefront, offering a wide variety of water sports and a beautiful location to enjoy the sunrise or sunset.  


Job Summary:


The Performing Arts Instructor is responsible for designing, planning, and instructing lesson plans in various disciplines within the performing arts to provide a diverse program offering. The Performing Arts Instructor leads team-building games, assists with all camp planning and performs counselor responsibilities.


    Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: 




    Supervisory Responsibilities:

      Minimum Qualification Standards:
      •     Be at least 18 years of age.
      •     Believe in the Girl Scout mission.
      •     Possess or currently pursuing a higher education in a related performing arts discipline such as Music/Music Education (Voice, Guitar or Percussion preferred); Theater or Musical Theater; Dance, or related discipline; OR have documented history of in depth participation in a related performing arts discipline.
      •     Prior experience teaching or working with children a must.
      •     Documentation of personal performance experience a must.
      •     Current First Aid and CPR training, or willingness to obtain during pre-camp 
      training.

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
      •     Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
      •     Strong  organizational  skills  including  the  ability  to  manage  multiple  
      projects  and  details simultaneously.
      •     Possess  good  character,  integrity,  patience,  sense  of  humor,  enthusiasm,  a  
      high  level  of flexibility, and willingness to be a part of the camp community.
      •     Ability to work productively in a fast paced, stressful environment.
      •     Skills related to lesson planning and implementation, such as: time management, 
      creativity, flexibility, and public speaking skills.

      Physical and Mental Requirements:

      Light  mental and visual attention required for performing work where there is some variety but 
      actions   taken   and   decisions   made   are   limited   to   few   possibilities.   Work   
      Physical Exertion:

      •     Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force 
      frequently or constantly to move objects.
      •     Walking on uneven terrain, up and down hills for distances up to ½ mile
      •     Endurance to meet emergency needs
      •     Ability (and willingness) to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours


      Environmental Conditions:

      The employee is subject to  inside  and/or  outside  environmental  conditions,  noise,  outdoor elements such as rain, wind, sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, etc..
