About
the Role:
The
Homeless Intake Support Specialist (HISS) is a front-line position, located at
the Emergency Shelter. Primary functions of this position include supervising
and assisting residents, overseeing daily shelter operations, and maintaining
ongoing compliance with agency and state (OTDA) policies. HISS staff will
interact with individuals experiencing short/long-term homelessness, severe
mental health, substance use, and other barriers that impact their ability to
maintain suitable/stable housing. HISS staff must possess empathy, effective
written/verbal communication, crisis de-escalation skills, attention to detail,
solution-based results, multi-tasking, ability to be mobile, and a
team-centered mindset.
Key
Responsibilities:
1.
Ability to have creative conversations about housing solutions.
2.
Maintain an understanding of agency housing programs and regulations, to
provide clients with a solution to their circumstances to secure the optimum
housing solution.
3.
Ability to problem solve.
4.
Inquire and document client income and resources.
5.
Complete diversion process with any new individuals presenting for homelessness
services.
6. Intake
duties require the completion of assessments and applications with client(s).
7.
Enter client information and incidents into HIMIS/AWARDS software system.
8.
Strong written communication skills with a focus on professional tone, clear,
and thorough documentation.
9.
Monitor daily communications and updates from the Samaritan Center.
10.
Review and complete Homeless Housing expectations and guidelines.
11.
Maintain regular dialogue with the Emergency Services Case Manager, through
documentation and conversation, ensuring the needs of the clients are
addressed.
12.
General office and clerical duties.
13.
Cleaning and maintaining shelter space.
14.
Laundry and light cooking as needed.
15.
Attend team meetings as scheduled.
Qualifications:
·
High School Diploma or equivalent
·
3 years of paid practical experience preferred
·
Experience in the human service field preferred
Relevant
combination of education and experience will be considered
