Employment Type: Full time/35 hours per week

Salary: Starting at $18.00-20.00 depending on years of experience/education level.

About the Role:

The Prevention Educator is responsible for providing school and community-based prevention/education programs on all aspects of alcohol and drug use, abuse, and addiction.

 

Key Responsibilities:

•  A Prevention Educator may perform a combination of some or all the below listed responsibilities. Each educator’s annual work agreement will lay out specific responsibilities for the following year. This position requires planning and development skills, self-motivation and the ability to exercise independent judgment and action.

•  Develops, Plans and Implements a wide range of Substance Abuse Prevention Education Programs for Steuben County residents. These programs may be delivered at Schools—for staff, teachers, administrators and/or students; or in a community setting---for organization, families and or individual residents.

•  Develops, organizes and executes community-wide substance abuse-related conferences.

•  Acts as liaison to the “Self –Help” community. Assists in clearinghouse activities that link people to “Self –Help” and other community organizations. Assists “Self –Help” community in acquiring information and/or resources needed by those affected by substance abuse.

•  Linking people with resources and organizations that will help them advocate for themselves regarding current substance abuse issues.

•  Represents the agency and substance abuse issues at community/school events such as Health Fairs, community celebrations, etc.

•  Represents the agency on committees, coalitions and task forces, where they help develop, plan and execute programs and activities that create awareness and education on a broad range of prevention issues.

•  Develops and provides written reports, statistics and documentation of activities monthly. Assists with research and data collection as needed.

•  Duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Prevention Program Services Manager.

 

Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Social Work or related field.

·          OR Associate’s degree and equivalent work experience

·         One year of work experience in a similar capacity.

 

Relevant combination of education and experience will be considered

 

Preferred Skills:

·         Ability to establish support and relate to a diverse client population including school personnel.

·         Knowledge of substance abuse related counseling issues.

·         Adheres to all applicable federal and state laws and regulations including, but not limited to, those governing confidentiality, privacy, program, billing, and documentation standards. All duties must be performed in accordance with CCDR’s corporate compliance and ethics program.

·         Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·         Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties.

·         Willingness to foster agency, department and program wide cooperation and teamwork through use of positive/constructive communication techniques.

·         Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality regarding all records reviewed including consumer records, employee records and billing records.

·         Proficiency and experience with PC’s and Microsoft applications.

·         Ability to analyze and interpret data and to handle problem resolution.

·         Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s license and a driver's record considered acceptable by agency and insurance carrier.

·         Continuous use of a reliable, registered, and insured vehicle.

·         Demonstrate commitment to Agency Mission Statement.

·         Provide effective, equitable, understandable, and respectful quality care and services that are responsive to diverse cultural health beliefs and practices, preferred languages, health literacy and other communication needs.
