Breastfeeding Coordinator/Nutritionist - March 2024
Position: Breastfeeding
Coordinator/Nutritionist
Program: Women, Infants, and Children
(WIC)
Reports to: WIC Director
Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Schedule: Monday 11am-7pm, Tuesday-Friday 8am-4pm; 37.5 hours per
week
Starting Wage: $24 – $26
per hour
Job Function: Provides nutrition assessments
as well as counseling to low-income women, infants and children with dietary,
medical and health risks and coordinates breastfeeding activities by performing
the following duties.
Breastfeeding Coordinator Duties and Responsibilities include
the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Supervises 2 Part-Time Breastfeeding Peer
Counselors
- Plans and promotes breastfeeding activities.
- Responsible for the coordination of the breast
pump lending program according to policies and procedures.
- Submits breastfeeding promotion and support
progress reports on a monthly basis.
- Train staffs on local agency policies and
procedures for breast pump issuance.
- Responsible for updating staff on breast pump
technology information.
- Responsible for coordinating annual training on
breastfeeding for staff
- Provide individualized educational services to
clients as needed during their pregnancy and breastfeeding period.
- Responsible for the writing and updating WIC
Program Policies related to breastfeeding according to NYS guidelines.
- Coordinate/integrate breastfeeding promotional
activities with private and public health care system; educational systems
and community organizations providing care and support or women, infant
and children.
Nutritionist Duties and Responsibilities include
the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Responsible for conducting nutritional assessments
- Provides nutrition education and diet counseling
to WIC clients.
- Develops appropriate individualized nutrition
education plans for clients
- Tailors and authorizes food packages for
participants.
- Provides instruction on use of farmer’s market
coupons and promotes the use of fresh fruits and vegetables.
- Responsible for documentation of nutrition
services.
- Assist with the development of the annual Local
Agency Compliance and Self-Assessment Plan.
Qualifications and Requirements: Registered
Dietician (RD), Nutrition and Dietetics Technician (DTR, NDTR), Registered
Nurse (BSN); or Bachelor’s degree in an health-related field with at least 6
credit hours in nutrition; must receive approval of NYS Health Department to
work as a Competent Professional Authority (CPA). Required to complete
Certified Lactation Consultant course within one (1) year of date of hire.
