WIC Clerk - (Nutrition Assistant - Chenango County) - October 2023
CAPCO’s Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) Program is
searching for a passionate Nutrition Assistant to join their team! The
Nutrition Assistant will work with Chenango County’s low-income families to provide
direct services to WIC clients, income verifications, and performs receptionist
and clerical duties to support the program.
Position: Nutrition Assistant
Program: Women, Infants, and Children
(WIC)
Reports to: WIC Director
Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday &
Friday 8am-4pm, Thursday 11am-7pm; 37.5 hours per week
Starting Wage: $17 – $18
per hour
Job Function: Provide direct services to WIC
clients, income verifications, and performs receptionist and clerical duties to
support the program.
Nutritionist Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties
may be assigned.
- Initiates the application process by collecting
all pertinent data. Initiates new WIC record when needed or locates
electronic record in state database for clinic use. Prepares materials for
transport to rural clinic as necessary.
- Answer phones, makes WIC appointment, and answers
questions about WIC eligibility or procedures. Checks voice mail and
responds to messages in a timely manner, transferring calls when
appropriate.
- Determines residency and income eligibility of WIC
applicants and follows established procedures in cases of questionable
eligibility. Provides WIC participants with instructions on usage of EBT
card and farmer's market coupons.
- Responsible for maintenance of participant
records, enters all data completely and accurately into NYWIC computer
system.
- Authorizes proxies according to policy and
procedures. Completes forms in accordance with policy for voter
registration process.
- Refers participants to nutrition staff as
necessary, and when indicated to community health providers and other
agencies.
- Assists with packing and unpacking van at outreach
sites, drives van as needed.
- Assists in maintaining an inventory of office,
clerical, and NYWIC supplies.
- Follows up with participants who have missed
appointments by phone, letter, email or AutoDialer.
- Trained in and collects information for the
nutrition assessment process, including obtaining anthropometric and
hematological data, as needed
- Participate in breastfeeding promotion and support
activities
- May issue food packages that do not require
medical documentation, once prescribed by the QN or CPA; and/or when no
food package changes are needed as from facilitated group discussions.
- Attends conferences to continue professional
development as time and budget allow.
- Assist with outreach and community events as
needed.
- Performs duties of any assigned coordinator roles
as defined and outlined by NYS health department.
Qualifications and Requirements: High
school diploma or High School Equivalency; plus six months related experience
and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
