Camp Director - Amahami
Job Summary:
The Camp Director will implement Outdoor Pillar
programming at Amahami Adventure Center and work collaboratively with the
Outdoor Program Team to meet the Girl Scout Leadership Experience through
outdoor adventure. This position will
also focus on increased property usage by individuals, troops and service units
at Amahami Adventure Center. The incumbent will serve as the Summer Camp
Director for camp held at assigned property. Although this position focuses
primarily on outdoor/environmental education, responsibilities may include
support of girl programming in other pathways. This position will work
collaboratively with Member Engagement Managers to recruit and retain new Girl
Scout members through a variety of methods.
Residence at Amahami Adventure Center is
required June through August; nights and weekends are regularly required
throughout the rest of the year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for coordinating and/or
facilitating programs that support and retain membership once recruited, with
an emphasis on camp and outdoor/environmental education activities.
·
Manage all communication and integration with
the CampDoc system, ensuring that the system supports the needs of all camps.
·
Manage camp and outdoor program builds in Doubleknot
and Salesforce 2.0 to ensure timely registration.
·
Contribute to council publications, website or
other resources as assigned. Serves as regional coach in assigned region.
·
Work in conjunction with the Marketing Team to
create and maintain a robust social media presence for assigned camp; create
and implement timely social media posts to enhance participation in camp and
outdoor programs.
·
Ensure that all camp programming incorporates
activities or processes that contribute to the intended outcomes for girls and
are grade-level appropriate and meet the needs and interests of current and
prospective girl members.

Actively recruits summer camp participants and
staff through a variety of platforms
·
Promote troop/group and service unit camping
opportunities on assigned property.
Ensure that volunteers have the knowledge and skill to deliver programs
in camp and other outdoor settings through comprehensive training.
·
Ensure that program activities are
girl-driven. Be familiar with current
youth development research; conduct
local research or focus groups with girls; develop or enhance systems that
provide for girl input in the design and delivery of program pathways.
·
Serve as Summer Camp Director on assigned
property. As Director, you will:
o
design, implement, and evaluate all camp
programming and oversee the daily operation of all aspects of summer camp;
o
oversee counselors, admin staff, food service
manager, and health supervisor monitor schedules, expenses, budgets, payroll,
and ACA and NYS DoH permitting;
o
follow risk management and crisis procedures;
o
maintain enthusiastic and vibrant relationships
with campers and parents;
o
responsible for the timely and accurate
processing of seasonal staff payroll, including the submission of hours/days
worked as required by the council’s payroll system;
o
observe camper and staff behavior, assess
appropriateness, enforce camp rules and regulations, apply appropriate conflict
resolution and behavior management techniques
o
work with the DOI to plan camp brochure and
marketing strategy and recruit campers from throughout the council

Participate in the design and delivery of
programs for girl and adult members as they apply to the outdoor pillar on
assigned property. Prepare and adhere to
budgets for assigned program activities.
Adhere to post-event report schedule as assigned.

Ensure that all program initiatives within the
outdoor pillar support the council membership plan and GSUSA program model.
Ensure that programs incorporate activities or processes that contribute to the
intended outcomes for girls. Ensure a variety of program resources,
experiences, and opportunities that support progression, leadership, and
community partnership and service.
Interpret GSUSA and council policies, standards, and program resources
in order to ensure quality program for girls and adults.
Supervisory
Responsibilities:
Seasonal camp staff on assigned property
Minimum Qualification
Standards:

Must
be 25+ years old, per NYS DoH camp director regulations
·
High
school diploma required; Associate’s degree preferred
·
2+
years relevant experience
·
Must
have and maintain a valid NYS Driver’s License
·
Equivalent
combinations of education and work experience will be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities:
- Excellent
verbal and written communication skills to establish clear expectations in
a fast-paced setting.
- Ability
to view the council as a whole vs. individualized regions or federations
to insure consistent opportunities and messaging.
- Ability
to make independent decisions and ability to interact effectively with
staff and volunteers at all levels of the organization.
- Ability
to employ strict discretion in sensitive situations.
- Comfort
with uncertainty and ambiguity while being proactive in anticipating and
preempting problems.
- Represent
the council as needed to both internal and external audiences.

Willing and able to travel to camps regularly

CPR/1st Aid, Lifeguarding, WSI,
Small Craft Safety, Wilderness First Aid preferred

This position requires the regular use of a computer,
printer, copier, fax machine, telephone, scanner, calculator.
Computer Software: Microsoft Office to
include Word, Outlook, Excel, Salesforce.

Requirements:

to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel, push,

computer terminal, and reading.
