We’re looking for a Junior Multimedia Reporter!

 

What you’ll be doing:

The Junior Multimedia Reporter (JMMR) is responsible for combining traditional and digital elements to tell compelling news stories.  This individual is responsible for developing their journalistic skills and abilities, supporting our reporting pillars, producing content as assigned and managing all aspects of the journalistic process such as investigation, compiling research, conducting interviews, writing, capturing imagery and video, editing, and posting on various platforms such as our website and social media platforms.  The JMMR takes initiative to pitch stories in alignment with our strategic goals, and helps to develop a robust story development pipeline. 


This position can be hybrid – a blend of remote and in-office work. Primarily evenings and weekends required. In summary, this individual will:

  • Represent BTPM/WBFO and serve as general assignment news reporter focused on their assigned reporting pillar(s)
  • Identify topics in need of story-telling and create longer-form NPR style, in-depth enterprise news reports; coordinate approval and development with Managing Editor and Digital Editor
  • Cultivate sources, investigate and conduct research; appropriately interview individuals and subject matter experts for stories
  • Capture, collect and organize audio, images, and/or videos for use in stories; edit as needed and credit appropriately
  • Write articles for publication in various formats such as on-air, web copy, social media, etc.
  • With Managing Editor and Digital Editor approval, post content on wbfo.org, social media platforms, apps, etc.
  • Serve as a weekend on-air host for WBFO


What you’ll need:

  • Minimum of Associates degree in Journalism, English, Broadcasting, or a related field; or comparable education/credits
  • Minimum six (6) months in a reporter position, public media industry a plus (internship experience is acceptable)
  • Strong attention to detail, grammar, and proof-reading skills
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Creative thinker with developing time management and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and report a variety of stories and issues with outstanding skills in writing and editing
  • Experience in maintaining high journalistic standards including objectivity, balance and fairness
  • Demonstrated ability to meet and adhere to deadlines
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer programs including Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with various audio and video recording equipment
  • Familiarity with Adobe Audition, Premier, Photoshop a plus

Salary and Benefits:

This is a part-time, non-exempt hourly position and starting pay will be based on education, experience and interview.  Starting range: $17.50 to $19.33/hr.
