through Friday 8am-3:30pm, 35 hours per week

Wage: Starting at $17.40 per hour
Job Function: Responsible for
implementation of food services in a Head Start/Early Head Start Program
serving child ages 0-5 by preparing inviting, CACFP approved meals; keeping the
kitchen and classroom areas clean and sanitary according to NYS Health
Department ordinances and maintaining adequate food stocks, kitchen supplies
and nutrition records.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities include the following. Other duties
may be assigned.
Prepares nutritious meals
that take into consideration children’s various cultures and individual
nutritional needs. Monitor and maintain proper food temperatures. Assist in
delivery of food to classrooms.
Understands and uses child
nutritional needs and age-specific portion sizes to prepare meals in accordance
with Head Start/Early Head Start and CACFP guidelines.
Understands and strictly
adheres to health, safety, food handling and sanitation requirements before,
during and after meal preparation.
Follows menu guidelines
and adjusts when necessary due to an availability of menu items or an
individual child’s needs. Maintain and monitor center allergies and concerns.
Assist Nutrition Manger to
plan and participate in nutritious cooking activities with children.
Prepare and participate in
family-style meals with children, volunteers and staff.
Work in conjunction with
the Nutrition Manager and staff to monitor family style dining in classrooms
and document as appropriate.
Maintain nutrition
record-keeping and reporting as directed by supervisor. Assist Nutrition
Manager with timely record keeping, including monthly reports, meal counts,
monthly meal counts, daily menu worksheets, and inventory of food and supplies
and all other reports as assigned.
Assist Nutrition Manager
in ordering and purchasing supplies, when requested.
Create breakfast and lunch
menus that meets the needs of the age groups and following CACFP guidelines.
Review food and supply
order sheets. Store food and supplies properly.
Maintain appropriate
cleanliness of all kitchen materials and supplies which includes:
- Keep the kitchen area
clean and sanitized. Floors will be swept and mopped daily. Counters kept
free of unnecessary items and sanitized both before and after meal
preparation.
- Stove, refrigerator,
and freezers will be kept clean inside and out. Proper functioning of
appliances is to be monitored by all kitchen staff daily.
- Assist in maintaining
proper storage of food and supplies to avoid spoilage and ensuring
efficient rotation of food stock.
Must attend required
training and all requested staff or community meetings.
Education and/or
Experience
High school diploma or
general education degree (GED); plus or one to three months related experience
and/or training in early childhood nutrition; or equivalent combination of
education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must have an acceptable
NYS Driver's License.
Other Qualifications
Clearance
through the NYS Maltreatment Registry. Annual Physical Examination, TB Test and
Fingerprinting for criminal background.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
While performing the
duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to
handle, or feel and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to
walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or
hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must
frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities
required by this job include close vision and depth perception.
While performing the
duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical
parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
