Group Leader

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

The primary function of the Group Leader is to assume overall responsibility for the care and supervision of the children, with emphasis on providing a safe and nurturing environment that is conducive to optimal growth in each of a child’s developmental areas.  On occasion overtime may be required; regularly submits to medical monitoring and must successfully pass required medical tests.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. Conducts a visual health assessment of each child daily, following up with written documentation, and informing Director as necessary.
  2. Provides routine custodial care to children including diapering, toileting and personal hygiene as necessary.
  3. Plans, executes and supervises developmentally appropriate activities that promote the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical growth of each child.
  4. Provides positive guidance and discipline techniques that emphasize socialization skills and the development of self-control.
  5. Communicates with parents daily in a positive manner.
  6. Develops and implements naptime procedures for infants, toddlers or preschoolers.
  7. Supervises all activities to ensure safety of each child at all times.
  8. Serves and eats all meals with the children and assist in the development of good nutritional habits and socially accepted manners.
  9. Remains knowledgeable and in compliance with all items specified in the New York State regulations for child care centers.
  10. Reports and documents all accidents or incidents in regards to the children.
  11. Treats all children with dignity and respect.
  12. Conducts assessments of infant, toddler or preschool children three times a year; October, January and May and schedule yearly conferences with parents OR conducts assessments of school age or Pre-K children twice a year; October and May.
  13. Assists the Director in supervising other staff and insuring the smooth coordination of all activities and staff/child relationships.
  14. Completes all room paperwork – attendance, meal counts and lesson plans, in a timely manner.
  15. Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  16. Performs other duties deemed necessary by the Center Director.

 

TITLE OF DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Day Care Center Director

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or CDA with one year of Child Care experience preferred.

For infant/toddler group leader: one year of infant/toddler experience or training specific to infant/toddler care.
