Full-time, Non-Exempt, for 37.5 hours per week with benefits
Job Function Provides nutrition education as well as counseling to low income
women, infants and children with dietary, medical and health risks by
performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
- Responsible for conducting
nutritional assessments including anthropometry, hematology, dietary,
medical and health necessary for the WIC certification process.
- Develops appropriate
individualized nutrition education plans for high-risk and non-high risk
clients.
- Provides nutrition education, diet
counseling, referrals, and support to WIC clients.
- Tailors and authorizes food
packages for participants
- Provides instruction on use of
farmer’s market coupons and promotes the use of fresh fruits and
vegetables.
- Assist with packing and unpacking
van at outreach sites, drives van as needed.
- Responsible for documentation of
nutrition services. Plans, evaluates, and orders materials for nutrition
education.
- Responsible for maintaining
inventory of medical supplies and NYS publications and orders as needed.
- Assist with the development of the
annual Local Agency Compliance and Self-Assessment Plan.
- Enters all data completely and
accurately into WIC computer system.
- Assist with outreach and community
events.
- Attends conferences to continue
professional development as time and budget allow. Attend periodic
meetings.
Education and/or Experience
Minimum requirements include Nutrition and Dietetics Technician,
Registered DTR/NDTR; or Bachelor’s degree in health related field with at least
six (6) credit hours in Nutrition. Bachelors or Masters in Nutrition or
Dietetics preferred. Must receive approval of NYS Health Department to work as
a Competent Professional Authority.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently
required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
The employee is occasionally required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb
or balance and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up
to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this
job include close vision. Must be able to travel to various locations to
support the needs of the program.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally
exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment
is usually moderate.
