Maintenance of Way - Trackman

in Olean, NY, the largest city in Cattaraugus County which serves as its
financial, business, transportation and entertainment center.
Position Overview: This position is responsible for
maintaining the track infrastructure, including construction, inspection and
repair of track and other railroad property & facilities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
ü Ensures compliance with all railroad and Federal Railroad Administration
(FRA) rules and regulations for safety
ü Develops and maintains positive working relationships with coworkers,
supervisors, contractors and/or customers and effectively handle high-pressure
situations
ü Observes the condition of railroad tracks, track beds and track
right-of-way for problems or defects
ü Removes and installs railroad ties, rails, turnouts, track fastenings,
and track switches, ensuring the safe and proper operation of all vehicles,
material, and equipment
ü Cleans and maintains track drains and ditches, grade crossings, fences,
flange ways, and rights-of-way
ü Lubricates track and track switches, removes and tightens bolts, assists
in track surfacing, track construction, alignment, gauging, jacking, tamping and
various other related duties as directed
ü Assists in re-railing operations and operates various rail equipment and
other service vehicles; uses hand, air, electric and hydraulic power tools and
equipment
ü Performs various physical duties in a maintenance environment, which
includes, but is not limited to, working with dust, dirt, gravel, fumes,
exhaust, various noise levels, chemicals, in confined spaces, and in various,
sometimes extreme, outdoor weather conditions and temperatures
ü Loads and unloads heavy materials, obtains necessary material and
equipment, removes debris, and maintains a clean, safe worksite
ü Assists with snow removal duties
Qualifications:
Required
ü High school diploma or equivalent
ü 18 years of age or older
ü Clean motor vehicle record (MVR) in the past ten (10) years with no DUI,
DWI, or reckless driving convictions
ü Pay close attention to detail, ensuring safety in work and rail
operations
ü Always be alert and aware of surrounding operating environment
ü Ability to read and understand safety labels and operating instructions
ü Follow directions with minimal supervision
ü Work a flexible schedule, which can include working various days, hours,
and shifts
Preferred
ü Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
ü Experience welding
ü Experience working in a construction-type setting
ü Experience operating heavy equipment
ü Experience working outdoors in variable weather conditions
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
ü Ability to perform physically strenuous work on a continuous basis in
all weather conditions

Bend, stoop, reach, twist, climb and work at
heights up to 20 feet
o
Access confined areas
o
Push/pull up to 50 pounds
o
Lift/carry up to 80 pounds, waist to shoulder lift
and shoulder to overhead lift up to 50 pounds
o
Must have manual dexterity with eye-hand
coordination
o
Ability to stand and sit for an extended length of
time and walk long distances for long periods of time on uneven terrain to
include railroad ballast and icy ground
