Infant/Toddler Teacher
Position: Infant/Toddler Teacher (7 open positions)
Program: Early Childhood Development
Reports to: Classroom Supervisor
Status: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week
Schedule: Monday through Friday
Hourly Wage: Starting at $19.12 - $20.53/hour
Incentive: Eligible
for $1000 Sign-On Incentive (to be paid at 90 days and 6 months)
Job Function: To design and implement a variety of active plans to
stimulate and sustain the interest of young children, and that contribute to
their social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development. Implementing
Day Care Regulations and other mandates, (i.e. Head Start Performance standards
for designated classrooms) by performing the following duties:
Essential
Duties and Responsibilities include
the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Make
decisions about the education of children based on information regarding:
o
Child
development and how children learn
o
Individual
strengths, needs, and interests of each child

The
cultures of each child’s family and community

Follow
and practice the following fundamental principles:

successful learning

Design
and implement weekly lesson plans according to the individual needs of the
children and consistent with curriculum according to program guidelines.
·
Complete
screenings and assessments on children using appropriate evaluation tool, i.e.
ASQ-3, Teaching Strategies Gold, Brigance Birth – 36 months.
·
Provide
guidance and assistance in activity leadership. Lead children in songs, games,
finger plays, and other activities. Interact with children during programmed
activities. Engage with children, showing affection, interest and respect.
·
Observe
and evaluate children's development level and maintains record of progress
according to the child’s individual development plan.
·
Use
approved child guidance and care giving techniques which support overall
program objectives.
·
Utilize
the Pyramid Model framework to enhance the social and emotional development of
young children.
·
Observe
children to detect early signs of distress or abnormal behavior. Participate in
conferences with parents. Prepare and submit accurate and timely reports, as
required. Participate in team meetings with supervisor and other team members
as needed.
·
Conduct
classroom conferences with families throughout the year as per the CAPCO Early
Childhood Program planning calendar to discuss the child’s progress and include
family members in creating child development goals.
·
Engage
in positive interactions with families daily, informing the family about child
while in the classroom and asking applicable and appropriate questions about
home life.
·
Must
provide for daily supervision of children, always keeping appropriate teacher –
to – child ratio. Keep the classroom supervisor/center manager informed of any
issues and/or problems that affect classroom operations.
·
Is
knowledgeable and follows NYS OCFS Daycare Regulations.
·
Maintain
daily attendance for meals served, record daily health checks and comply with
proper sign in/out procedure for children, as well as other forms of daily
required documentation.
·
Attend
to the physical needs of the children (i.e. diapering, feeding, toileting,
resting, etc.) Rock, hold babies, and assist children during family style
meals. Guide children to develop self-help skills. Assist children in collecting
their belongings when they depart.
·
Clean
up activity materials, sweep and mops floor after each meal in cooperation with
other staff. Provide custodial duties not provided by the Lease Agreement.
·
Fill
out required forms for children referred to Early Intervention and/or CPSE
committee, attending meetings as needed.
·
Work
collaboratively with classroom team, taking the lead role in mentoring new
staff in the classroom.
·
Add
appropriate documentation to program database on routine basis per Program
guidelines.
·
Complete
all applicable end-of-month paperwork timely per program guidelines.
·
Actively
participate in Family Engagement activities, including classroom-specific,
Program-specific, and overall Agency activities.
·
Must
work jointly with all CAPCO Early Childhood Development staff, volunteers,
interns, and providers to promote a team approach in the delivery of Early Childhood
services to all enrolled children, their families and the community at large.
·
Engage
in positive interactions with families daily, informing family about child
while in the classroom and asking applicable and appropriate questions about
home life.
·
Monitor
and complete multiple assessments for practicum students as necessary.
·
Must
have flexibility to adapt to last minute staff and daily schedule adjustments.
·
Promptly
notify Early Childhood Education leadership staff (supervisor, center
coordinator, Health Services RN and/or Coordinator) in the event of an
emergency health concern while adhering to all Program guidelines and
standards, including but not limited to standard set forth by the NYS Office of
Children and Family Services.

Must
follow agency procedures for reporting suspected child abuse and neglect.
·
Must
attend required trainings and all requested staff or community meetings.
·
May
be requested to work one-on-one with students as needed in the classroom to
support the overall curriculum, behaviors, and classroom functions.
·
May
be re-assigned to alternate classrooms throughout the Program to provide
support as needed. Assignments may be temporary or long-term dependent on
Program-need.
Additional
Early Head Start Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities, as applicable
·
Collect,
track, and maintain In-Kind information and data for Program reporting.
·
Be
knowledgeable of and follow Head Start Performance Standards.
·
Provide
materials and activities in all modalities of Head Start Birth to Five Early
Learning Outcomes Framework.

Education
and/or Experience
Minimum Infant / Toddler
Child Development Accreditation (CDA), or a state-awarded certificate that
meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential. Associate's degree (A. A.) in Early
Childhood Education preferred or equivalent coursework in early childhood
education, specific to caring for children Birth – 3 years old.
Certificates, Licenses,
Registrations
NYS Driver's License.
Clearance through the NYS Maltreatment Registry. Must complete Daycare
regulation trainings as required.
Other
qualifications: Physical
Examination, TB Testing upon hire. Fingerprinting for criminal background per
the standards set forth by daycare licensing. Must be able to travel to all
sites, training, visits, etc. as necessary and
requested.
