We’re looking for a Program Director, WNED Classical!

 

What you’ll be doing:

WNED Classical Program Director is responsible for the overall vision, direction, and management of the station as set forth by senior management.  The director facilitates a consistent sound and tone for the station, oversees audio and video messaging, trains and supervises all program hosts, and hosts a regular, on-air shift.  This individual also plans and participates in on-air fundraising campaigns and coordinates with staff on community events and partnerships.

This position can be hybrid – a blend of remote and in-office work. In summary, this individual will:

  • Collaborate with senior management to execute the long-term vision and plan for the station, including digital strategy
  • Establish and maintain a consistent sound and tone for the station; ensuring that programming, format, underwriting and on-air sound support the vision and plan of the station
  • Serve as station contact and executive producer for the station’s local audio, video and digital program content including, but not limited to, producing/hosting podcast content as well as short-form and mini-music storytelling videos for all platforms
  • Be responsible for the organization’s relationships to major and independent labels and managers
  • Train and supervise all full- and part-time program hosts
  • Represent the station at community events/activities and in other station/community events, in-person and virtual, on- or off-site
  • Host a regular on-air shift, as assigned – live format and voice tracked
  • Collaborate with fundraising department on pledge campaigns
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Creative Services team to develop an ongoing promotion plan for the station
  • Participate with other department heads in the preparation and implementation of annual and strategic planning
  • With Vice President, Content Distribution, manage budget; able to prioritize and allocate spending appropriately based on need, return on investment, labor, and overall efficiency. Obtain approval(s) when needed


What you’ll need:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in classical music radio hosting/programming
  • Minimum of Associates degree (or equivalent) in media, marketing, journalism, or related field; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • A comprehensive knowledge of classical music, its history, styles and performers
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer programs/platforms including Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of radio traffic software (Music Master, Marketron) is a plus
  • Previous supervisory experience desired
  • Familiarity of broadcast equipment preferred 
  • Excellent management, organization and communication skills
  • Public-facing personality – friendly, energetic demeanor; comfortable with public-speaking/being in front of various sized and demographic audiences
  • Understanding of on-air compliance and regulatory guidelines

 

Salary and Benefits:

This is an exempt, salary position and starting pay will be based on education, experience and interview.  Starting range: $64K - $80K.
