Day Care Center Director
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
To direct and manager the Day Care Center’s operations and implement the
long-term strategic plan financial stability, program growth and enhancement of
the overall quality of the curriculum.
Duties include the management of educations and recreational activities
at the Center, as well as supervision of the Infant, Toddler, Preschool and
School Age programs and staff.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Finances:
1. Manage facility
budget. Prepare monthly reports, as requested, to include updates on programs,
activities, and budget compliance.
2. Ensures the
collection of fees, maintain records of fee payments and conveys fee
information to the Finance Office.
3. Authorizes the
purchase of instructional materials and teaching aids, such as books, toys, and
games designed to stimulate learning.
4. Participate in
various fund-raising activities and events.
Record
Keeping:
1. Complete
registration and enrollment forms / procedures.
2. Reviews and
approves menu plans and food purchases.
3. Keep current,
orderly and complete files of required child/staff records according to the
licensing specifications for information and location of record keeping.
4. Maintain daily
attendance records & procedures, health records, and all required
paperwork.
Staffing:
1.
Arranges for staffing in accordance with required
staff / child ratios. Minimizes use of
overtime.
2.
Is involved with recruiting, interviewing, and
hiring of center staff.
3. Supervises,
trains, supports, and evaluates staff.
4. Act as a role
model for positive behavior at all times.
5. Maintains an
active substitute list..
6. May perform
classroom teaching duties during absence of regular teacher.
7. Plans and
facilitates regular staff meetings. Schedules resource presentations for the
Staff as well as required training.
8. Perform related
recreational duties as needed.
Programming:
1. Develops / adopts
appropriate curriculum for each program age group.
2. Oversees the
implementation and day-to-day execution of educational programs.
Discipline:
1. Maintains a
responsible discipline policy for children and staff.
2. Confers with
teaching staff regarding children behavioral or learning problems, and
recommends methods of modifying inappropriate behavior and encouraging learning
experiences.
Marketing:
1. Increase
visibility of program services and activities.
2. Publication of the
activities of the Center in accordance with the marketing plan.
3. Target recruits to
fill vacancies in a timely manner.
Communication:
1. Interact with
parents of participants to keep them informed, answer questions and address
concerns.
2. Build partnerships
with parents and families.
3. Provide accurate
and timely information on program operation
Oversees and ensures compliance with federal,
state and local regulations:
1. Reviews and
evaluates facility activities to ensure conformance to federal, state and local
regulations.
2. Establish monitor
and supervise safety programs including but not limited to: playground,
emergency procedures, drills, traffic safety, and sanitation. Ensure facilities, equipment and supplies are
maintained.
Safety / Medical / Cleanliness:
1. May arrange
medical attention for ill or injured child in accordance with parental
instructions.
2. Maintain a safe
and orderly program environment by arranging for repair/replacement of
equipment and regular cleaning of program areas.
3. Inspects the Day
Care Center on a regular basis as part of an ongoing safety and fire
protection, prevention, and security program to ensure that: safety standards
are maintained; the physical plant is maintained in a clean and sanitary
manner, and is in safe operating order.
4. Assure cleanliness
of day care center facility as well as equipment.
Transportation:
1. Schedules pick-up
and drop-off of children from school and on field trips as needed.
TITLE OF DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Chief Director of Daily Operations
QUALIFICATIONS:
To
be qualified as a director, a person must possess either:
Bachelor’s
degree, including or in addition to 12 credits in Early Childhood, Child
Development, or a related field; one year of full-time teaching experience in a
childcare center, family, or group family day care home or other
early childhood program; and one year of experience supervising staff in a
childcare program or a related field of work; or
New York State Children’s Program Administrator Credential;
one year of full-time teaching experience in a childcare center, family or
group family day care home or other early childhood program; and one year of
experience supervising staff in a childcare program or a related field of work;
or
Associate’s degree in Early Childhood or related field, with
a plan of study leading to a Bachelor’s degree or a New York State Children’s
Program Administrator Credential; two years of full-time teaching experience in
a childcare center, family or group family day care home or other early
childhood program; and two years of experience supervising staff in a childcare
program or a related field of work; or
Child Development
Associate Credential or other OCFS-recognized credential, with a plan of study
leading to a Bachelor’s degree or a New York State Children’s Program
Administrator Credential; two years of full-time teaching experience in a
childcare center, family or group family day care home or other early childhood
program; and two years of experience supervising staff in a child care program
or a related field of work.
